June's Tip of the Month

Noun/Verb?

Question:

For some reason I have a drawing that has changed the following settings on my computer. When I select an object, line, pl ... In the past, the layer of the selected object would dynamically display in the 'layer control pull down'. Now it is just stuck on the last layer that I manually selected.

Answer:

The answer to your layer control pull down not working has to do with noun/verb selection.

Go to Options...Selection tab... and check the box for "Noun/Verb Selection".

This should fix your problem.

Question #2:

Weird deal, what does Noun Verb mean? I don't understand what that has to do with it. But then again I got 3 C's in my 9 hours of English.

Answer #2:

Noun = object
Verb = action

When you are using the layer control pop-down, you are selecting the object (noun) first, then you are telling it to go to a different layer (verb).

Without it checked, the old way of telling AutoCAD what to do first then selecting the object only works. i.e. Command: Erase <enter> Select objects...
